2. Glossary

Note: There is one term, Beast Core, which has not been introduced into the story yet. I had accidentally included it, but because I had already posted the glossary and it’s not a spoiler, I have decided to leave it be. I had also revealed more information about the Cursed Core than what was known, so I have removed that information.

1. Important Terminology

Runist Ranks (Continent of Haven: five ranks each divided into five star stages)

Apprentice – fuse the body and the soul through the soul rune; no longer need sustenance

Novice – gain the ability to activate the soul rune; chance of being able to feel and see spiritual energy

Adept – gain the ability to feel/see spiritual energy; chance of being able to feel and see magic energy

Doyen – gain the ability to feel/see magic energy

Grandmaster – reinforces the soul rune, body, and soul

Rune Ranks (weakest to strongest)

common-white

uncommon-green

rare-blue

epic-purple

legendary-orange

divine-???

unique-random (core color; only soul runes can be unique)

Rune: a symbol made of scribbles and spiritual fluctuations that call on Nature’s name. Depending on which rune is cast, different magic is invoked. The more accurate the name/rune, the more powerful the magic. Two runes with the same translation can have different names/effects.

Runist: a person who uses runes. Depending on the rank they have reached, their bodies will be more powerful than a normal person’s. A runist is to runes as a mage is to magic.

Spiritual Essence/Energy/Power: energy that everyone possesses within themselves. It is used to activate runes and to heal the body. Usually it cannot be felt by others until one reaches the Novice and/or Adept rank.

Magical Essence/Energy/Power: energy that is created by runes through the refinement of a person’s spiritual energy. Magic power is the energy of the world and is not a part of a person. It usually has an element. Pure magic power can be felt in nature when one reaches the Adept and/or Doyen rank.

Soul Rune: A unique rune that everyone is born with. Its innate power varies among individuals.

Stone Rune: A rune engraved into a surface (most commonly a stone). It needs to be bound with blood before it can be used. Others can bound the stone for a specific person, but they’ll be able to sense the stone rune’s location. They also need to stay within a certain distance from the stone rune or it will unbind.

Magic Rune: A rune that can be engraved into the air with spiritual energy. Once completed, it will activate and control magical energy to produce an effect. It usually takes a lot of practice to learn how to cast a single magic rune.

Enchantment Rune: A rune that is wrapped around a surface and gives an object a special effect. Some need to be bound with blood.

Rune Formation: A combination of many enchantment runes to make a very large rune. Most commonly seen in defenses around and in encampments, cities, sects, etc. Very few people specialize in rune formations.

Core Color: Color of a person’s soul rune. It appears when binding stone runes. The chance to get a certain color is the same for any other color. However, core colors range from all tints and shades.

Special Cores: They vary depending on how white, black, or clear the soul rune is. For example, Kaiden has a pure white core.

White Core: little power; person can use all runes.

Black Core: lots of power; person can use only a few runes.

Cursed Core: ???

2. Glossary

A~

Adept (Continent of Haven): The third weakest Runist rank. It is represented by the color blue. The next rank is Doyen. An Adept gains the ability to feel and/or see spiritual energy. Some people will also gain the ability to sense magical energy.

Apprentice (Continent of Haven): The weakest Runist rank. It is represented by the color white. The next rank is Novice. An Apprentice no longer needs to eat or drink to stay alive. The soul will sustain the body and make it stronger and more powerful.

B~

Beast Core: A magic beast’s soul rune compresses into a stone within their body. This stone is called a beast core, and after the magic beast dies, it becomes a precious jewel. Unfortunately the soul rune disappears, but the beast core can still be used to study stone runes. It is also a good material to use as a base for making stone runes or enchanted items.

Black Core: One of the three special core colors. The wielder’s spiritual power is amplified when casting runes, but this significantly limits what runes a person can use.

C~

Core Color: The color of a person’s soul rune and also the color of a magic beast’s beast core. It appears when binding stone runes. The chance to get a certain color is the same for any other color. However, core colors range from all tints and shades, making the chance to have a specific color extremely rare.

Cursed Core: One of the three special core colors…???

D~

Doyen (Continent of Haven): The second strongest Runist rank. It is represented by the color purple. The next rank is Grandmaster. A Doyen gains the ability to feel and/or see magical energy.

E~

Enchantment Rune: A rune that is wrapped around a surface and gives an object a special effect. Some need to be bound with blood.

G~

Grandmaster (Continent of Haven): The strongest Runist rank. It is represented by the color orange. The next rank is rumored to be Divine, but no one has ever reached that rank. A Grandmaster’s soul, body, and soul rune reinforce themselves and begin to fuse together. At the Five-Star stage, the three are a hair’s breath away from completely fusing.

I~

Inner Soul: The resting place of a person’s soul rune. During meditation, a Runist can enter his/her inner soul to train his/her soul and improve his/her body. The inner soul is considered sacred, and everyone’s is different. It is believed to be located within a separate dimension, but the location of its two “doors” are in the mind and in the stomach.

It usually has an element. Pure magic power can be felt in nature when one reaches the Adept and/or Doyen rank.

N~

Novice: The second weakest Runist rank. It is represented by the color green. The rank comes after Apprentice and before Adept. When a person becomes a Novice, they gain the ability to activate their soul rune. Some people also gain the ability to feel and/or see spiritual energy.
